Ahmad Jum’ah Al-Muhayyir (A/k/a “Abu Suhayl”)

Al-Rahmaaniyya and Al-Ta’aana Villages:  The SAA set up an ambush along a supply pathway for ISIS and killed over 50 rats.  The disaster for the terrorists was compounded when the SAA and PDC seized hundreds of pounds of C-4 (Semtex) and boxes of ammunition.  A major setback for ISIS.

Things are coming along OK, most of the road is free now, very few cleaning on going and some hard work ahead to wipe clean the road of IEDs. Latest news is that ISIS not only lost a lot of rats but were pushed back beyond the previous border prior to the attack. Small pockets still fighting, Syrian officials mentioned that tomorrow the road may be totally free, remains to be seen though.

The only way to logically explain Morek (along with Mahen) is: “persuasive incentive for more people to start joining…” There is also the second explanation: saa got outdone militarily and lost a whole city situated on M5, in mere hours. But doesn’t the whole new strategy revolve around securing M5? All in all; every one of these embarrassing and all encompassing losses ruins how people identify with saa. Soldiers too will loose confidence in the ability of those in charge to perform. How does saa command expect soldiers to risk their lives liberating a town, when those soldiers can expect… Read more »

SAA officially WITHDREW from Ghammam, less than a day after capturing it. This is 2nd or 3rd time Ghammam was exchanged. About a week ago, there were news of saa penetrating into southern sectors of Salma, and that allies have taken hill tops close to the town. It looked that Salma was finally going to be liberated, especially as RuAF took an interest in it, but then…. nothing…. Is this this sector even active anymore? It appears that RuAF’s direct close-air-suppor for saa in offensive-role is minimal to non-existent. Fronts with most important objectives could have been penetrated by now;… Read more »

Patience is a virtue in war as well as peace. It has only been a month since Russia entered the fray in a full and visible way with continually accelerating air support and on-the-ground military intelligence. The fruits of their involvement and Hezbollah’s continued and growing combat role, not to mention the SAA’s renewed efforts and confidence, have the dark forces in panic. The evil empire is in a dither about what to do. They are hatching some diabolic plans but these too will be snuffed. The good guys are winning. The terrorists and their criminal support network are losing.… Read more »

Patience is needed. I sure wish victory would come soon, but that is merely my worldly self. My higher self ought to see further.

The poor people of Syria – how they suffer. My only consolation is to think that this is a war for civilization against barbarism. The stakes are high, and so therefore is the commitment required.

The idea is for Kurds to “liberate” as much isis held Syria and Iraq, and allow USA to build military bases, and eventually gain Independence. Every square meter of land that Kurdish troops take, will likely not be under authority of Damascus. Kurds, and western world, will easily justify wanting self-rule, after fighting isis, and their “heroic Kobane fight”. This is why Syrian and Russian strategy seems very shoddy at present. Should be focusing and saturating troops and air strikes to liberate Kweires, and then using that as a staging ground for air forces to cover an advance down Ithrya… Read more »

There is some indication that Erdogan is more interested in suppressing the Kurds that supporting ISIS. That would suit Russia and not US. You must admit this thing has no simple solution.

Erdogan is a right old prick, this election has got to be rigged. It is hardly credible that the same Turks that protested and demonstrated against this duplicitous thug not so long ago in their droves for his collusion with Zionists and open support for ISIS, would now vote for him to grant him a majority election win. There is nothing that has happened in between to warrant such a shift in such short span of time.

Rigged or not (it most probably was) it is up to the Turks to do something about it.

Same with USA, I love the people (well most, if only because they are truly, innocently, clueless) but couldn’t believe the conduct of the psychos they purportedly elected to represent them. But at the end of the day its up to them to do something about it.

Penny, HDP consisted of Kurds who are mostly secular as well as non violent. Thats why many non-Kurd leftists , like my sister, voted for it. However there was huge influence of islamic cults in the east Turkey. It was a long term government project started before Akp to prevent the development in the region, maintain easier control and manuplation. In the leftist coalition around 2000s they were targetted but Akp again supported those in past 13 years. That isn’t particularly reasonable. Diplomats aren’t supposed to tell what they have said in such meetings. However I find Putin a much more interesting subject than Syria and find out as much as I can. My vote is that Putin’s team did say that. It is entirely consistent with their approach and is supported by all the analyses in Sputnik, RT, Russophile….etc, in general. You also need to consider Putin’s actions and Erdogan’s They say that actions speak louder than words. Whatever was said behind closed doors, Putin has no problem with upsetting Erdogan. Angered by air strikes, Turkey’s Erdogan… Read more »

It hasn’t gotten much exposure, but…….. Russia did not heed Erdogan’s threats and counterattacked. Its first countermeasure was to stop issuing transit passage documents to Turkish trucks carrying Turkey’s exports to Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Mongolia. Turkish exports to the Middle East and the Gulf had already hit bottom when Turkish trucks lost transit routes because of clashes in Iraq and Syria. Now an annual $2 billion worth of exports to Central Asia is at risk with the Russian sanction. In an announcement on its official website, the International Transporters Association (UND) reported that transit passage documents through Russia have… Read more »

Queen: Penny does excellent work on her blog, with valuable and insightful material on frequent occasions but, when the subject ‘Kurds’ comes up, reason flies away and does not return. Best to just let her post her opinion, which she has every right to do, and then vote her post up or down without getting into a pissing match with her. The Kurds is one of those subjects upon which nearly everyone has an opinion from which they will not be swayed, so argument is fruitless. Just my opinion, of course.

How do kurds define themselves?
Do they have a single language as their mother tongue?
Is it the clothes they wear?
Is it an identifiable set of customs unique to their group and no others?
I would hazard a guess that they are not physically distinct from their surrounding non kurdish compatriots?
Self defined difference across national boundaries is anathema to the concept of the cohesive nation state.
Nation states with such groups within them know they need to be cognisant.

abut kurds
I think the kurds are remnants of kassites and mitiani who flourished between 1500 bc to 1300 bc.they were indo aryans ,meaning those aryans who came from India to the middle east after 1700Bc.
many kurds do look like north indian and hence aryan they look like iranians too, another much later aryan tribe.
turks are new come rto antolia only after 1400AD.
so logic demands that turk be pushed out from that place to make way for the aryan kurds.

we see now that IS is run by real military pros. (NATO & allies)
they try to counter by doing the unexpected: attack SAA supply routes; adapt to the strikes and strike at weak points.

From that line they have pushed further west, and have not yet been driven back to the original line, and it doesn’t appear that they will be any time soon, either. Ron Paul must be a moron. How can a terrorist attack on a Russian passenger plane be a blowback for a legitimate military action against terrorist forces?
It may be a blowback for shooting a plane over Ukraine. But certainly not for the good actions in Syria.

MALFUNCTION IN THE WIRELESS DEVICES”

The Russian aircraft went down south of Al Arish, near the border of Israel, very close to Israel’s main signal intelligence facility, Unit 8200, located on Kibbutz Urim

The Israeli signal intelligence facility, known as Unit 8200, has “rows of satellite dishes that covertly intercept phone calls, emails and other communications.” This Israeli spy facility would have had the ability to monitor and communicate directly with the aircraft’s navigation system – without the knowledge of the crew.

That Russian plane is NOT important for the war in Syria.
Totally not related. And even if 100% related has no military effect or value towards the war.

The Russians do not deliberately attack the civilian populations. Not in WW2, not now in 2015. They have a brave and strong people. They do not have to do it to win a war. Watch the events unfold towards Aleppo. The citizens (civilians) will first be allowed to leave the city through a safe corridor.

These airplanes that are destroyed by bombs or rockets always have the same modus operandi. Takes 1-3 years before revenge is taken for downing them. And they focus on the “master minds” in general.

If you think you can give ISRAEL a bad reputation with blaming the destruction of this plane on them. Then you are a PROPAGANDA FOOL!!!
That can backfire on you one day if the Russians themselves say it was a defect that brought the plane down.
No rush with passenger planes.
They make BAD propaganda anyhow.

Remember all the propaganda they did with MH17?

https://youtu.be/T34AB6CImTE
Tape backfired at the Ukraine!
(many more examples from MH17 that backfired on the Ukraine/CIA/Nato)

It all backfired on the USA and NATO.
They rushed their propaganda out.
So it backfired.
All of it backfired.

Do NOT use passenger planes that fall from the sky (for whatever reason) for propaganda. DO NOT TOUCH IT!!! It does not work, positive or negative. People always chose sides for the underdog. People always chose sides for those falsely accused.

Iran threatens to walk out of Syria talks if “unproductive” http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2015-11/03/c_134776544.htm TEHRAN, Nov. 2 (Xinhua) — A senior Iranian foreign official on Monday criticized what it called Saudi Arabia’s “unconstructive” role in recent international talks on Syria crisis, threatening to walk out of the talks should the next meeting be “unproductive,” Iran’s Alalam satellite TV reported. In the recent meeting in Vienna, “some countries, particularly Saudi Arabia, played negative and unconstructive roles, as they could not provide a logic for their positions vis-a-vis Syria’s conflicts,” Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian was quoted as saying.… Read more »

I don’t get it. They took Ghanaam with the help of RuAAF — and then lost control over adjacent hills and had to retreat as they had not sufficient cover, came under mortar fire.
So the positions and troop concentrations where mortar/rocket fire came from could not be taken out from the air?? WEIRD.

Stein, the tactics of this war has changed, winning and holding ground at all cost is not the primary goal anymore on every and all battles. The goal now is to preserve the army and cause as much damage as possible on the enemy. The bottom line if there is a possibility of large casualties the army will pull back and attack when odds are in favor. This has been a contentious point between Iran/Hezbollah and SAA for that last couple of years. This is Iran’s strategy to preserve SAA to fight after peace has been won.

‘I don’t get it.”

The jihadis aren’t just sitting around waiting to be bombed. They have changed their tactics as well.

They are positioning elements and equipment in and around Mosques and other areas with a potential for high collateral damage.

The back and forth may be a tactic by the Russians to lure them out of these areas and into concentrated killing fields.

The tactics will become evident as the campaign progresses.

Syria FM says anti-terror efforts must be coordinated with Syrian gov’t http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2015-11/01/c_134772245.htm DAMASCUS, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) — Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said on Monday that any effort to counter terrorism in Syria without coordination with the Syrian government is a violation to the UN charters, according to the state news agency SANA. You can actually ANALYSE from a psychological point of view why passenger planes are the WORST kind of “false flag” propaganda attempt. Why passenger planes DO NOT work for propaganda. – dust needs to settle down, you can not score vastly with propaganda on passenger planes because the people (world public) first have to cope with the impact (most people fly so all feel affected) – people first need time to put down stuffed animals, flowers, cards, memorial services – people first want the information from the flight control tapes, flight data recorder and black box to be public, so… Read more »

given the altitude the flight had reached, only a very sophisticated ground based anti-air system could have downed the flight, most analysts would assume that ISIS and cohorts do not possess such weapons.
I am very surprised that nobody is talking about the fact that Israel and some of her lackeys are presently running exercise “Blue Flag”, just a few flight minutes away from the crash site..
Wouldn’ it be possible that an air-to-air missile could have been fired and found the Russion jet “by error”..

This should be pretty obvious just from a quick perusal of the sorts of manufactures Russia produces: A vast military-industrial complex that produces (and exports) on a scale and versatility exceeded only in the US. Rosatom is building an amazing 40% of all the nuclear power plants currently under construction in the world. 10% of the world’s power turbines are made at the Leningrad Metallurgical Factory. More prosaic but also more generally indicative, Russia produces about 2 million cars annually, which is about the same as in the UK and France, and thrice more than in Italy. “GHUMAAM LIBERATED”. That’s not true. Ziad, pls read your son’s website, he sez it like it is, not fantasies:

http://www.almasdarnews.com/article/islamist-rebels-launch-counter-assault-at-ghannam-in-northern-latakia-town-recaptured/

The takaway of the last few days is: Where Hezb/ShiiteMilitias or the Palestinians are involved, the resistance forces are on a roll, even with SAA in tow: SW Aleppo, Khanasser/Ithriya.
Where SAA/NDF struggle along, even with RuAF support, they get bogged down (Kuweires) or retreat (GHUMAAM).

There are a lot of shifting sands lately around the world, mostly in the ME, things are not the same as before, though escalation will only grow from now onwards, see UK new base in Bahrain, the status quo for the past 25 years does not apply anymore. Iran, among many other countries, understand the opportunity and will size more influence and power, the next 2 years will be very interesting in the ME, south and southeast Asia.

Yes! “Anon” Why doesn’t the SAA ally with the Kurds jointly operate in north western Syria and help seal the border with their prime and joint enemy: the Erdogan regime? Good idea.
