Father Francis van der Lugt Executed in Homs

Father Francis van der Lugt was executed this morning in Old Homs. Frans was a Dutch Jesuit priest that had worked in Homs since 1966, teaching youths how to grow crops amongst other things. He was beaten and shot in the head twice by the gunman.

Very sad news. I read the article on Father Francis this morning on breaking news. They have no regard for life whatsoever. Rot in hell.

By all accounts Father van der Lugt was a true man of God, and his murder was an abomination. those responsible will, undoubtedly, receive no hint of mercy when they stand for the judgement. Rest in peace, Father.

Thanks for posting Ziad! The father was a tried & true friend of the Syrian people. If only the tyrannical President, Dr. Bashar al-Assad wouldn’t have harassed the good padre from practicing his religion, maybe he would still be alive today or at least that is what SOME would have you believe.

Many know better and a wiseman once said, “They fool you, they keep fooling you & enjoy fooling you, not be because they are smart, but it’s because you are foolable.”

RIP Father Francis

what a sad story… these terrorists want to wipe out everything the Syrian ppl hold dear…

I read this in the guardian news and they very subtly imply that the priest was murdered by the Syrian govt foreces.
they used words like “the rebels were shocked by the news”…. “he lived with us, ate with use….”
its unbelievable how someone will twist such a tragic news knowing full well the perpetrators and still want to take advantage of a tragedy.

what happened to humanity?

Dear Frans, R.I.P.

“The governor of Homs – Talal al-Barazi said that rebels from the Al-Nusra Front took him outside on Monday and shot two bullets through his head”

In February only 66 of the 3000 Christians were still living in Homs.

Hi Ziad and Syper readers. I have a thought which I would like to share. It is not related to father Francis (RIP). Whilst the new anti tank weapons may not be a game changer in terms of attacking tanks, I fear they may use them against soft targets (schools hospitals military/security buildings. I know nothing about weapons capability but if it can blow up a tank then it can blow up buildings etc. I fear these bastards will wreak havoc unless these weapons can be neutralised … and quickly. Are these groundless fears on my part? I hope so.… Read more »

I see in previous posts and elsewhere that ther word “jesuit” immediately stirs a level of suspicion which to some degree I understand, In this case I don’t know the gory details, but on a cursory level this man appears to have given much of his life to the service of the Lord and to others. From a Christian perspective ( be it anything from Catholic to the modern day mega churches which are glorified satanic command centers ), institutionally many have lost their way and this man seems to have been much closer to what the the values of… Read more »

There are too few of these men who live truly Christ-like lives and are able to forgive. I know that I cannot forgive such senseless slaughter of innocents, I hope only for the painful demise of this blight upon humanity.

‘Executed’, Ziad, means “put to death after due legal process”. Your use of it in this context implies you are legitimizing this grisly murder by your ostensible political enemies.

Propaganda 101, Ziad; words matter.
